step 1: identify a problem
India's Jewish population - 5000 out of a billion - despite being a minority has added immense value to its national heritage, socially, economically and culturally. Few people in the country, let alone the world, are aware of the mere existence of this incredible community. Their contribution to Indian society needs respect and recognition.
step 2: come up with an idea
Intellectual curiosity and creative thinking are always a solid match. Acquire an intimate knowledge of Judaism as a religion and trace the history of Jews in India from the beginning to present times. Use ethnographic methods to illustrate the community's identity and experiences in the larger context of India's diverse population.
step 3: implement a solution
Jews of India: A People's Story. A dissertation presenting in-depth research under the guidance of Rabbi Malekar; interviews with members of the synagogue and photographic documentation of present-day cultural and social life of the community.
