women who raise

In the spring semester of my senior year, I scripted, filmed and edited a documentary film that explored how race and class shaped the narrative of American motherhood. Through a series of interviews, I explored how African American mothers viewed their individual experiences as unique in the broader context of socioeconomic barriers to access to justice, healthcare, education and work opportunities within the community. My subjects, and personal heroes, are the dining hall workers of my undergraduate alma mater, Yale University, who never made me feel away from home with their unconditional love, warmth and care. Connie, Theresa, Shirley, Shana and Diane - I owe you tremendous gratitude.

* Special thanks to my wonderful professors of documentary studies, Matthew Jacobson and Anna Deunsing, at the Yale University Department of History & American Studies.
